World War 4 Report has a great piece on buses in Peru, and the study in contrasts between the cramped, lower-end routes and tourist-bus juggernauts. There’s even a bit of political resistance, a la playing video of police abuse while being abused by the police. It’s a fun, quick read.

Peru’s P.M., Yehude Simon, (due to step down because of this debacle) is recommending that executive decree LD 1090–which accommodates the of sell-off indigenous lands–be repealed. Good, of course. But too bad so many people had to die.

The violence seems to have abated in northern Peru, but the police are reportedly trying to intimidate journalists into not reporting what actually happened. Shameful, Prez Twobreakfasts, shameful.
